Grand Central
Tucked away in the busiest area of Fields Avenue is a classy little boutique hotel named the Grand Central Hotel formally known as Orange Lion.

This hotel is literally situated in the heart of the action yet despite this the hotel is quiet and relaxing, making it the perfect little hideaway for a romantic interlude or just a simple change of pace.

When the partying demands of Fields Avenue take their toll I recommend a visit to the Grand Central Restaurant. Here you can escape the maddening crowd for a quiet drink or a romantic interlude with your chosen partner.

This café has a classy, functional yet pleasantly relaxing ambience, combining quality food, friendly and efficient staff. I was quite surprised with the staffs knowledge of the menu considering this is a comparatively new restaurant. There is also a great little bar area perfect for enjoying a drink or two with new found friends.

The relaxing atmosphere is apparent before you even enter the front door. Outside they have a veranda perfect for relaxing and just watching the events as they unfold on Fields Avenue. This is a nice little area and it is good fun sitting here enjoying a drink or two and a tasty meal.

When out here you will be approached by vendors trying to sell you a range of goods, anything from DVD’s through to Viagra and leather belts. If this becomes a problem simply ask the doorman to tell them to go away. I have seen the doormen just look at a vendor without uttering one word and this was enough to scare him away.

Inside the restaurant / café the relaxed classy ambience is maintained. They expertly prepare a wide variety of dishes from Europe, Australia, Mexico, Greece, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Korea, as well as a range of local Filipino cuisines.

Breakfast is served 24-hours with menu items as low as 95p. Each evening they offer an all you can eat Mexican platter as well as an all you can eat salad bar.

The bar is extremely well stocked including all the major spirits and beers.

These days no place is complete without Wi-Fi so feel free to bring your laptop in fact if you need to use your computer I can think of no place better. The environment is quiet and the connection reasonably quick for the Philippines and there is plenty of space on the sturdy tables.

Grand Central Restaurant / Café represent’s a refreshing and relaxing change from the hectic pace of partying on Fields Avenue. This is a centrally located hideaway ideal for sharing a few beers with friends and acquaintances or serves as the perfect venue in which to wind down and relax. This is also the ideal place to bring your honey-ko for a romantic interlude far from the maddening crowd.

The Grand Central's sushi bar separates this restaurant from its competitors in town. At the Grand Central they have employed special foreign trained Sushi Chefs who prepare the highest quality items available. They make sure not only are the ingredients the freshest possible, but it is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The internationaly renowned chefs design their dishes using the freshest cuts of tuna, salmon, grouper, squid, eel, octopus, shrimp and fish roe available. The speciality dishes in this restaurant are the expertly prepared signature rolls and this reviewers particular favorite is the California Roll. You owe it to yourself to try the these delicious rolls and please dont just take our word for it when we say you will not be dissapointed.

When we visited there recently we had the Nacho Grande and the seafood omelet, both were very good and I have found myself visiting Grand Central regularly on the way home after a long night barhopping.

The Grand Central Hotel is currently going under major room improvements and we will be doing a review on this hotel in the near future when they are complete. You can visit their website at www.gchac.com/
